The homepage for the project “Water Negotiations and Investment Planning Support” in Albania is now live: nips-albania.net. As reported elsewhere in our “News” section, the project supports Albania's preparations for membership of the European Union by designing implementation plans to achieve compliance with the European Union’s Urban Wastewater Treatment Directive (UWWTD) and Drinking Water Directive (DWD). These directives are key instruments intended to achieve clean, safe drinking water and to assure the well-being of its citizens. These implementation plans are supplemented by a national strategy for the management of sewage sludge, a phased programme of investments and measures aimed at developing institutional capacity for the management of implementation.
The home page fulfills a number of active functions. These include sharing information on the project, helping to monitor progress in reaching the project goals, providing a forum for stakeholder interaction and enabling the various work groups to keep up easily with each other’s activities as well as the scheduled workshops and seminars.
The homepage also features an online training platform. This will allow people to access material at times that suit their own working schedules. Most importantly, it contributes to sustainability by ensuring that training courses that are developed in the framework of the project remain available to beneficiaries and other stakeholders even after the project is completed.
